New Project Support from TÜBİTAK 2209-A
2 Nisan 2024Özden Yüksek, our 4th-grade student from the Department of Psychology, was entitled to be supported within the scope of TÜBİTAK 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program with her project titled “Enhancing Word Recall with Beat Gestures in Preschool Children”. This project, which will last for 12 months, has three main purposes: The first of these main purposes is to investigate the effects of using beat gestures accompanying words on the target word recall performance of preschool children aged 3 to 5. The second main purpose is to investigate whether using beat gestures is effective in recalling not only the target word but also other words in the list. In other words, the aim is not to observe local recall of the target word in the list but rather to observe global recall of words in the list that are not accompanied by a beat gesture. Thirdly, previous studies have investigated the relationship between beat gestures and word recall in children aged 5 and above. There is only one study investigating children younger than this age group (3-4). For this reason, it was intended to repeat the findings obtained from this single study with younger children and acquire similar findings.
We congratulate our student Özden and our Psychology department faculty member Assoc. Dr. Aslı AKTAN ERCİYES, who is the project advisor, and wish them success in their research.
